Tips to wearing contact lenses

An essential part to healthy contact lens wear is a regular eye examination. As opticians, this eye examination, with its professional sight assessment and eye health check, is the most important way we can help care for your eyes.

Advances in contact lens technology have now virtually eliminated problems previously associated with contact lenses. However, it is still vital you follow the guidelines given to you by your Optician when wearing and caring for your lenses, some simple do's and don'ts:

Do

  • Always follow the wearing schedule advised by your Optician
  • Wash and rinse your hands before handling your lenses
  • Always use fresh solution
  • Replace immediately faulty, damaged or dried out lenses
  • Replace your lens case at least every 3 months
  • Handle daily disposable lenses as little as possible
  • Rub and rinse monthly disposable lenses before insertion
  • Remember to attend for contact lens check ups as advised by your Contact Lens Optician

Don't

  • Sleep in your lenses unless advised by your Optician
  • Re-use solutions
  • Ever use tap water on your lenses
  • Wear your lenses whilst swimming
  • Ignore eye irritation

Please always contact your Optician if:

  • Your eyes become red and/or irritable
  • You have reduced vision in one or both of your eyes
  • You have any query at all regarding your lenses

Please ask our contact lens experts at your local store for more information.
