Our story It’s now been over three decades since we opened the very first Vision Express store in Gateshead’s MetroCentre.
We’ve come a very long way since then. But our guiding principle remains the same. And that’s to provide an unparalleled level of customer service. A truly individual service, delivered in a professional yet welcoming environment where vision is taken seriously.
Through organic growth and acquisition there are now 575 Vision Express stores across the UK and Ireland – from big city locations to local high street stores. Following the acquisition of Tesco Opticians in 2017, you’ll now find us in larger Tesco stores too.
More recent developments have included the next step in our online retail journey when, in 2019, sunglasses and contact lenses became available to buy directly online from Vision Express.
The bigger picture Although we very much remain a distinct brand, in 1997 Vision Express became part of leading international optical retail group GrandVision NV. Operating over 7000 stores in 44 countries across the globe, GrandVision has more than 37,000 employees.
GrandVision’s commitment to our long-term support allows us to invest not only in our business and our people, but the very latest optical testing technology. The latest example of this is the introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in an increasing number of our stores. Adding a whole new dimension to your eye test, OCT imaging can detect the very early signs of retinal eye conditions and diseases, as well as wider health issues.
Our wider focus As part of our commitment to Vision Taken Seriously, and as a progressive business and employer, we are proud to partner with a range of healthcare charities which provide vital support to people affected by vision-related conditions.
