Blurred vision

Eye conditions that can cause
blurred vision

Some other potential causes of blurred vision are:

  • Vessel rupture in the eye, for instance a haemorrhage
  • An abrasive cornea
  • Eye infection
  • A foreign body being placed inside the eye such as a lens
  • Dislocated lens placement
  • An incorrect eye prescription
  • Trauma to the head or eye
  • Iritis (inflammation of your iris, the coloured ring at the front of your eye)⁷
  • Keratoconus (distortion in the shape of the cornea, the layer at the front of your eye)⁹
  • Glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve that can be caused by high fluid pressure in your eyes),
  • Cataracts (cloudy patches begin to develop on your eyes lens).

Can blurred vision be prevented?

It is difficult to completely prevent blurred vision from occurring as there are several
potential causes, some unavoidable like ageing. However, blurred vision can be treated
and managed. Here are some things that can help prevent blurred vision or other
conditions that may cause blurred vision:

  • Regular eye examinations, at least once every two years.
  • Washing your hands before putting in contact lenses.
  • Wearing sunglasses when out in the sun.
  • Consume vitamins and supplements for eye health, such as a diet rich in healthy fats such as nuts and seeds, and antioxidants such as leafy vegetables. A high intake of vitamins A and C is also recommended ¹⁶.
